ABOUT BRODIE BOONE
Brodie Boone has
literally been around boxing his entire life. As soon as he was able to walk, a young Brodie was following his dad, Hank, to the gym. By 1976, a four year old Brodie began giving his own little training sessions. In 1979, he had his first bout at the ripe old age of seven in Toronto at Newboys Boxing Club.
From 1979 to 1988 Brodie continued his registration with the boxing association with a total of 18 bouts, ending with a record of 17W, 1L. His trainer during those very successful years was his father Hank, himself an accomplished trainer of many fine boxers (including Steve Pagendam, a provincial and Canadian champion with 1983 Syracuse Golden Gloves and 1984 Olympics to his credit, as well as Jamie Pagendam, also a provincial and Canadian champ and a 1988 Olympian. Other provincial or national champs trained by Hank were Elio Fabrizi, Mario Zapittelli and Guy Normandeau, just to name a few). Highlights for Brodie during his boxing career include winning the Diamond Gloves Championship in 1985, and being nominated as Mascot for the Boxing Hall of Fame by co-founder and infamous boxer Tony Unitas. Two of his boxing wins at his heavier weight divisions came over provincial champions as well; not many of us can have that on their resume.
In 1997 Brodie began coaching at Hiagara Boxing in the Niagara Region and assisted his father Hank in working with his boxers. From 1998-2001, Brodie had moved to Regency Boxing Club in Hamilton, but ultimately decided he fit better working alongside his dad and left there to focus his attention on one club, the City Boxing Club in Niagara Falls. 2001 was a big year, as it saw Brodie form the Hamilton Boxing Club, where he is to this day. He is still head coach and can lay claim to developing many talented boxers, including: two-time Canadian silver medallist and current professional, Linda Ludwig,
current light heavyweight Golden Gloves champion, Dan Ludwig,
current professional and dominating amateur, Justin Fountain,
amateur veteran and left hooking tank, Leo Cespedes
and many, many more...just see his BOXERS page for more information on the many talented athletes in Brodie's stable.
Also in Brodie's resume is a fine reputation as an official, both in refereeing and judging, which he began in 1998 and continues today. He is now a level 3 Official for both divisions.
As you can see, Brodie has been around boxing for most of his life. He comes from a very long line of boxers on both sides of his family and has been in gyms almost forever, gaining a valuable insight into the rules and feel of the sport. Brodie is well versed in the sport, with an impressive command of the rules and regulations of the sport; you could say he really knows the 'ropes' (disclaimer; I don't know if pun was intended, but that fits good doesn't it?). Brodie's boxing knowledge accompanies and compliments his physical and mentail ability, and he brings with an infectious enthusiasm that guarantees those who meet will want to come back for more, and those that come back want to keep coming back. Brodie's stable of boxers and fitness fanatics grows greatly everyday, and Brodie continues to make each member, both boxer and non-competitor, feel welcome and included at all times.
